FNM Senators Want Answers

The Senate is set to debate the Commercial Recreational Watercraft Act when the upper chamber of Parliament sits again on May 17.

That bill was first read in the Senate today, tabled by Finance Minister James Smith, just before the Senate suspended for a week.

Meanwhile, four questions posed by Opposition Senate Leader Tommy Turnquest, and two from Senator Carl Bethel, are on the table for Government Senate Leader Dr. Marcus Bethel to answer.

Senator Turnquest has also posed a question to Finance Minister James Smith, asking whether there are agreements between the Bahamas government and the Baha Mar consortium other than the heads of agreement.

In particular, Senator Turnquest asks about agreements for land sale between the investors and various government agencies, and asks the government to produce any related documents. He asks what the justification would be for continued secrecy should the government fail to produce the documents.

Senator Turnquest also wants to know who the original bidders were on the Arawak Cay Reverse Osmosis Plant, and why Abraham Butler has been relieved of duties as general manager of the Water and Sewerage Corporation, if in fact he has.

Senator Carl Bethel wants the government to answer questions about Minister of Public Works Bradley Roberts and his alleged relationship to Sunshine Holdings and Arawak Homes, particularly in the light of the purported cancellation of work orders to pave roadways in Senator Bethelメs constituency.

Speaking to the Bahama Journal, Senator Turnquest expressed grave doubts that the government would actually answer any of the questions put by the opposition.
