Two Murders in One Day

The country recorded its twentieth and twenty-first murders in less than six hours yesterday. The first homicide occurred Thursday morning just a block away from the childhood home of Olympic gold medallist Tonique Williams Darling.

According to Inspector Walter Evans, Press Liaison Officer for The Royal Bahamas Police Force, shortly before nine in the morning on Thursday, there was an altercation between two relatives at a home on Graham Street in Yellow Elder Gardens. “One of the relatives had a received a stab wound to the chest area,” said Insp Evans. “It was believed to be with a sharp object. At this time, we cannot say exactly what it was.”

The victim, who police say is in his mid-twenties, was immediately taken to hospital following the stabbing but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Up until press time, police officials had yet to release the victim’s identity.

However, Insp Evans did admit that people are assisting them in questioning but said he could not reveal if the man, who allegedly stabbed his relative, was one of those being questioned.

Meanwhile, the country’s twenty-first murder occurred yesterday afternoon in the Carmichael Road area.

Reports were still sketchy up until press time. But Police Insp Walter Evans did confirm that a fatal shooting occurred on Bacardi Road.

Police investigations into such matters are ongoing.
