A judge on Friday set bail at $150,000 for a man accused of having cocaine worth $2.5 million with intent to supply.
Sean Pratt, who has both Bahamian and Turks citizenship, was arrested on suspicion of drug smuggling on August 3 at North West Cay, off Great Inagua.
Jose Cabrera, the Dominican who was arrested with Pratt, pleaded guilty when he made his initial appearance before Deputy Chief Magistrate Carolita Bethell on September 4.
Law enforcement officers dug up six crocus sacks containing 140 kilos of cocaine after Cabrera showed them the hiding spot on the cay, according to the evidence. Cabrera was sentenced to the mandatory minimum of four years.
Prosecutors objected to bail for Pratt because he has Bahamian and Turks passports.
Justice Indra Charles ordered Pratt to surrender both passports to the court and report to the Cable Beach Police Station on Tuesdays and Fridays until the conclusion of his trial, which is set to begin on April 25, 2013.
The judge initially set bail at $1.5 million. However, Pratt’s lawyer Ian Cargill persuaded her to reduce the bail sum, saying it amounted to no bail at all.
