A day after Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham leveled excoriating comments at members of the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) for remaining silent about the demolition of buildings in the Pinewood area by Arawak Homes, about 20 area residents staged a demonstration outside the company’s Shirley Street headquarters.
The demonstration was sparked, after the company demolished an unoccupied duplex in the area on Monday.
The duplex belonged to Max Williams, according to his brother Dwayne Williams, who has a duplex of his own on the same property.
Max Williams has been missing for months, according to his brother.
He said he fears that Arawak Homes will also destroy his home, which he has built from the ground over the past 10 years.
Yesterday’s demonstration outside the company’s headquarters was the second to take place there this week. On Monday, a small group of residents engaged in property dispute, cases with Arawak Homes protested outside its Shirley Street office.
That first protest was in response to the company demolishing the Lynden Pindling Estates home of Frederick Wood and his wife Maria Wood on September 24.
Arawak Homes also tore down Canaan Baptist Church on Charles Saunders Highway in September 2009.
