Police have indicated that charges are not expected to be filed against the driver of the car that crashed into and killed the two Canadian pedestrians in Exuma last Thursday.
Ron Gandza, 57, died at the scene and his 55-year-old wife Jill Gandza died at a local clinic. They were active supporters of the efforts to help the ailing potcakes in this country.
Shockingly, Inspector Harry Williams from the Traffic Division said police did not expect that anyone will be charged.
He said: “We are past the initial stage of the investigation and at this point no one has been charged and no one is expected to be charged in the immediate future. Our investigations are not complete, so it may change, but at this point we do not expect any charges to be pressed.”
Rumours have circulated that the driver was drunk but Isp Williams said: “It is not true.”
“We have received no information that the person was drunk, we have no indication at this point that was the cause. As far as we know right now, it was an accident, a tragic one that is still under investigation.”
Some rumours have also circulated that the driver left the scene. Though these rumours have not been substantiated, it seems shocking that the driver who killed these people would not be held responsible.
The driver of a grey 2000 Nissan Sunny is assisting police with their investigations. It is unclear whether this is an eye-witness or the killer.
