Michaella Forbes-Conliffe is Kelly’s 21st Bride of the Year, Merrilyn Wallace-Bain Runner Up
Kelly’s 21st Bride of the Year is Mrs. Michaella Forbes-Conliffe, a registered nurse with the Public Hospital Authority. She will reign over Bridal events at Kelly’s House and Home, Mall at Marathon, in 2013, during the company’s 85th Anniversary Year.
“Our Bride of the Year is always a young woman of very special qualities, attractive and community minded, giving back to others,” said Mrs. Nancy B. Kelly, President of Kelly’s House and Home. She adds, “These young role models, our Brides of the Month, represent women who have shown special qualities of giving back to their communities. We feel they will go on to make positive contributions through their churches and other civic organizations. You are all winners!”
In an emotional tribute, Mrs. Kelly said, “In March, my late husband David and I would have been married 50 years. I wish you all a lot of love and I advise you all to enjoy the fun and compromise and to remember the team effort you must make. I don’t want to see any divorces!”
Mrs. Kelly was married for 46 years to David Kelly, CBE, Olympic sailor and philanthropist, who spent nearly 60 years in retail.
As Retiring Bride of the Year Mrs. Shonel Wilson-Clarke turned over her crown, the new Bride of the Year Michaella Forbes-Conliffe said, ” Oh my God, I’m just so stunned! But, prepared and ready to work with Kelly’s Bridal Department.”
She met her banker husband, Nigel, while shopping. He proposed “rather romantically. At the end of a carpet of rose petals, there were 11 red roses, each holding a message. He held the 12th red rose in his hand with the message ‘Will you marry me?” Of course she said “Yes!”
She urges brides to be to “Put God first in everything and be true to your partner. Be as much help as you can be in the community,especially to the children’s homes and with the elderly.”
Her hobbies are travelling, reading, nursing the sick and and meeting people. She chose Kelly’s for her bridal selections “because they have such a wide selection quality merchandise, reasonable prices and because of the excellent customer service give by their bridal consultants.”
The new Bride of the Year, another brainy beauty, receives the Kelly’s House and Home $1,000 gift certificate and a wealth of other prizes including: a Noritake “Pembroke Gold” china service for six; a beverage server by Arthur Court; a Kitchenaid 10 piece porcelain pot set; a Hamilton Beach 40 oz Smoothie Smart Blender, a 5-opening collage picture frame by Melannco and a Wilton Decorator Preferred Deluxe Tool Caddy.

Scores were so close that Kelly’s once again announced a runner up, Mrs. Merrilyn Wallace-Bain, a medical intern at the Public Hospital Authority She receives a $250 gift certificate, a large Kitchenaid covered roaster; a 5-opening collage picture frame by Melannco, a Wilton Decorator Preferred Deluxe Tool Caddy, a Cuisinart Stainless Steel Chopper and a 6-tea light candle holder by Elements. She married Ramon Bain after six years of long-distance courtship. He proposed at Cafe Martinique.
An independent panel of judges chooses Kelly’s Bride of the Year from Kelly’s 12 Brides of the Month. The Brides of the Month for 2012 were: January-Alexandria Taylor-Gabriel; February-Kelly Bostwick-Toote; March-Michaella Forbes-Conliffe; April-Alexandria Woodside-Johnson; May-Keenya Farrington-Stubbs; June-Merrilyn Wallace-Bain; July-Leandra Pratt-Roker; August-Cephia Pinder-Moss; September-Denricka Kerr-Taylor; October-Kalesa Gibbs-Simmons; November-Anna Cunningham-Williamson; December- Nezera Rolle-Khan.
Judges for the event were Mrs. Cypriana Fleischer, Mr. Vincent Vaughn; Mr. Nelson Georges (who has served every year) and Mrs. Gwen Bayles, retired Kelly’s Bridal Department Manager.
Kelly’s Bridal Department Head, Ms Beverley Maycock, urges prospective brides to come meet her, “and enter the Bride of the Year and Month competition.
