Police discovered a man and a woman burnt beyond recognition in a car off Carmichael Road on Saturday night, May 25, 2013.
Head of the Central Detective Unit Superintendent Paul Rolle said police initially responded to a bush fire around 6:50 p.m. west of Bacardi Road, but later discovered that a car was on fire.
He said firefighters were called to the scene to extinguish the blaze.
“On completion, they found that there were two bodies inside the vehicle burnt beyond recognition,” Rolle said on scene.
“One was in the front passenger seat and the other in the rear seat.”
Police suspected that the car was driven to the scene and dumped there. “We have every reason to believe that [these are murders],” he told reporters. “I don’t think that the car just got there by itself.
“There did not seem to be a hood on the car, so it’s possible that somebody drove it and dumped it there.” Rolle added that police did not know the make or model of the car. He said yesterday that police still did not know the identities of the victims. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact police.
Hours after the discovery in the burning car, police were called to the scene of another murder. Police said a man was shot to death on Thompson Lane, off East Street. From Saturday, May 18 to Saturday, May 25, there were nine murders on New Providence.
There were two on the 18th, two on Monday, May 20 and two on Wednesday, May 22.
The murder count for 2013 now stands at 49.
