Five students from the National After School Art Programme received monetary rewards at a presentation ceremony held on Wednesday, 25th September, 2013.
Jerome Fitzgerald, Minister of Education, Science and Technology made the presentations to Bobby Telusnord of C.I. Gibson Senior High School; Logan Brown of R. M. Bailey Senior High School; Alton Joseph of C. R. Walker Senior High School; Jarette Stubbs of C.I. Gibson Senior High School and Krystal Major of C.I. Gibson Senior High School. The paintings will be added to the Ministry’s collection of artwork produced by students.
The Minister congratulated the students for the outstanding works of art that they produced. He stated that he was privileged to have been afforded the opportunity to view the talent of so many students in a variety of areas. “Continue to be creative because there is money to be made in art as a profession or as a hobby. At the same time you will be helping to develop our culture.” The Minister also pointed out the positive correlation between engaging in art and academics.
Minister Fitzgerald commended the Programme Staff for giving so freely of their time to assist the students. He also thanked the parents for their support of the students. The National After School Art and Craft Centre was established in 2005 by renowned Bahamian Artist, Mr. Maxwell Taylor to provide outstanding student artists an opportunity to hone their creative skills.
