Theatrical Production “Light” Examines Heavy Issues

Nassau, The Bahamas – One of The Bahamas’ premier theatre groups, Track Road Theatre (TRT) announces that the final installment of their most recent theatrical production, Light, will be shown at 8:00pm on December 10th, 11th and 12th 2010 at The Hub.

Written and Directed by Bahamian playwright and TRT member Deon Simms, Light is a cautionary tale about the importance of conflict resolution. It examines what occurs when two young men become embroiled in an ongoing fight over a young lady. The conflict rages on until one’s life is nearly taken and they uncover a devastating truth that changes their lives.

Since Light’s debut at the National Performing Arts Centre in 2009, the play has been showcased among critically acclaimed theatrical productions locally, and internationally in the inaugural Shakespeare in Paradise theatre festival where the production was a part of the Ministry of Youth’s Youth Month in Clarence Town, Long Island where it was performed to a packed-house.

With the fusion of TRT’s experience and up-and-coming young and vibrant players, Light provides a theatrical experience that’s mature, yet fresh, with a story that’s current, meaningful, and important for our time.

Renowned Bahamian poet, Obediah Michael Smith stated in a review that: “Light was or is life in The Bahamas, in its capital city, put on stage – the gang-related conflicts and what and who fall out when they clash. Light reflects events many of us hear about but do not know first-hand. It is a mirror held up to these happenings and to these times.”

Light’s final installment will be taking place at The Hub on Bay Street and Colebrooke Lane. This venue provides a unique opportunity for audience members to experience the production due to the intimacy and creative energy of the space.

Tickets are now available at $15 per person at The Hub on December 2, 2010 from 12pm to 6pm. For group rates, and further information,  interested persons should contact Matthew Kelly (426-2743) or Deon Simms (427-9387).
