Numbers king and FML CEO, Craig Flowers, was successful in getting his trial postponed again.
Flowers was back in court, but the trial was unable to resume because the judge who is presiding over the case, Derrence Rolle-Davis, is conveniently on circuit.
Rolle-Davis is the judge who was rumoured to be having an affair with a woman whose divorce was before his court.
He has been involved in a number of other scandals.
It is no coincidence that Rolle-Davis was assigned to the Craig Flowers case.
Certain employes in the Bahamas court system make sure that some cases go before “specific” judges, to ensure that the results are in accordance with their plans.
Mr Flowers, who has gotten rich from a very public numbers business, has been able to escape prosecution for years.
He was surprisingly charged last year with promoting a lottery and permitting his web shop to be used for the purpose of conducting a lottery after police raided FML’s head office on Wulff Road.
Police confiscated nearly $1 million in cash in the raid. Flowers has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
A number of his employees were also arraigned on similar charges and several patrons were charged with being found on the premises where a lottery was taking place.
Flowers and his employees are represented by attorney Alfred Sears.
If convicted, persons could face a fine of up to $5,000 or up to two years in prison.
Most Bahamians believe that the raid and subsequent court actions are all for “show and tell” and that the government has no intention of ever convicting Mr Flowers.
Flowers has been a generous contributor to both major political parties in The Bahamas and allegedly has numerous high-ranking police officers on his payroll.
