Nassau Music Society Committed To Excellence

Quartetto Gelato

The Nassau Music Society’s season has started off nicely. We would like to thank the public for its continuous support and presence at our concerts.

We would like to particularly thank their Excellencies Sir Arthur and Lady Foulkes for agreeing to be our Patron this Season.

We would like to thank our sponsors, for without them, none of this would be possible, especially Société Générale Private Banking, Colina, Pictet, Royal Star Assurance and the many individual sponsors and members to numerous to list here.

We began the year with a Members evening on January 15th at Government House with entertainment provided by exceptionally talented Bahamian artists such as Eldridge McPhee, (Lyric Baritone) of the Bel Canto Singers, Candace Bostwick (Soprano), Shavincia Thomas (Flute), Anita MacDonald (Soprano), B’Angelo Cartwright (Trumpet), Christy Lee (Pianist), Dion Cunningham  (Pianist), Shanderia McKenzie (Vocalist), Calvin Parker (Pianist), Selah Poitier (Double Bass) and  Bazil Miller (Alto Saxophone). The audience was thrilled by such a display of talent in one room.

This was followed by a black tie event on January 22nd at Old Fort Club in association with the Bizet-Broadway Committee from Canada headed by Cornelia Nihon and $20,000 was raised for voice scholarship and training. This evening was most successful featuring four opera singers from Canada and was enjoyed by all.

We continue with our commitment to the College of the Bahamas to support an entry level music student and we will support eight students over the next ten years. Our first student, Shavincia Thomas, graduates this year and she is among the most promising musicians in the Bahamas with the flute as her main instrument.

Our next regular concert featuring Quartetto Gelato from Canada, will be held on February 18th at the College of the Bahamas Performing Arts Centre (8:00 pm) and February 19th at St. Paul’s, Lyford Cay (7:30 pm). We invite the public to come out in great numbers to support us and to help us support and promote music to the talented youth of this country. Details on the concerts may be seen at www.nassaumusicsociety.org/programme. Reservations available at www.nassaumusicsociety.org/reservations  and tickets at our box offices, A.D. Hanna and Co.
