Treasury Department has a new home, a five-storey complex, East Street north, opposite Police Headquarters.

Minister of Finance, Prime Minister Hubert A Ingraham and Minister of State, Zhivargo Laing, toured the building on Wednesday.

Treasurer Eugenia Cartwright, Senior Deputy Treasurer Mary Mitchell, and Deputy Treasurer Miriam Curtis accompanied them.  The government is leasing the 30,000 square-foot building.

Noting that the Public Treasury has had “inadequate and unacceptable” accommodation for many years, the Prime Minister expressed his “gratitude and thanks” to its staff who “continued to work notwithstanding the conditions under which they were working.”

Although the government is spending more money for the new building, said the Prime Minister, “we have adequacy of space, the morale of our staff is very high, they are comfortable and secure.

“We think it is money well spent,” he said.
