A 35-year-old woman from Florida was seriously injured when the banana boat she was riding in collided with a jet-ski driven by two people.
The Tribune newspaper reported the story but did not identify the two people riding the jet-ski. This usually indicates that they were Bahamians, as the local papers are often reluctant to name Bahamians who are involved in such matters, especially if the Bahamians are at fault.
The incident occurred just after 3:00pm on Sunday on Cabbage Beach off Paradise Island. The woman is now in the hospital where she is being treated for a fractured leg.
This is the second jet-ski related accident in the past two weeks and one of many that have occurred in The Bahamas over the past few years.
Less than two weeks ago, a 27-year-old woman who had arrived on a Carnival Cruise ship was killed when the jet-ski she was riding on, with another tourist, crashed into a boat in Nassau Harbour.
Yet, despite numerous tourists being injured or killed in jet-ski related accidents, the Bahamas government has done nothing but pay lip service to enforcing the laws or making changes to the relevant legislation.
