Industrial action could take place at Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort if the Department of Labour does not address almost 150 trade disputes dating back to 2006, president of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Obie Ferguson warned yesterday.
Ferguson said the Privy Council’s ruling, which found the Bahamas Hotel Maintenance and Allied Workers Union (BHMAWU) to be a legitimate union that has had credence since 2001, should have prompted the Ministry of Labour to expedite hearings on the trade disputes.
However, he lamented yesterday that since the ruling was handed down in February, the Ministry of Labour has done nothing to begin the process.
