Two in Custody For Acklins Theft

Two people are in custody in connection with the theft of a safe containing a “substantial” amount of money from the Acklins administrator’s office, police reported yesterday.

Superintendent Paul Rolle, officer-in-charge of the Central Detective Unit (CDU), said the men, both residents of Acklins, were arrested for questioning yesterday afternoon.

Rolle said it was too early to tell whether the suspects, both in their 30s, will be charged in connection with the theft.

The safe was stolen over the holiday weekend, police said.

Officers from the Central Detective Unit arrived on the island yesterday morning.

Police could not confirm how much money was in the safe but The Nassau Guardian understands that it may have contained more than $100,000.
